Kruger Lower Sabie Rest Camp sits on the mighty Sabie River which runs through the heart of the national park.
Lower Sabie is one of our favourite Kruger National Park rest camps. It has a beautiful setting with walkways, restaurants and accommodation overlooking the river. It’s a very peaceful and relaxing place to get your BBQ going in the evening while watching the sun set.
The rest camp has lots of facilities and accommodation options range from camping all the way through to guest houses. Conveniences include:
- Day visitors’ picnic area
- General store
- Laundry
- Petrol station
- Post box
- Restaurant
- Swimming pool
Lower Sabie’s in a wildlife-rich area of Kruger National Park and has a number of different self-drive game routes where you can stop off at many of the surrounding camps for lunch, snacks and a toilet stop.
If you’re staying at Lower Sabie and want someone else to lead the way, you could consider going on a ranger-led:
- Morning guided walking trail
- Sunrise or sunset game drive
- Bush breakfast
- Bush braai (BBQ) which includes a game drive to the venue in the open savannah
The lovely Sunset Dam is on the doorstep of Lower Sabie Rest Camp. Park your car at the dam. Watch the wildlife come and go for a drink and see the most enormous crocodiles on the banks. Sunset Dam is also home to a number of hippos and water birds, such as the black-winged stilt (pictured below).
Lower Sabie Rest Camp is in southern Kruger National Park. It’s a convenient day’s drive from these surrounding rest camps:
The rest camp is also close to most of the southern park entrance gates:
The closest gate of all these is Crocodile Bridge Gate, at a distance of 34km (21 miles).
Put Lower Sabie on the top of your list if you’re going to visit southern Kruger National Park!
