Numbi Gate – The Quickest Way to Pretoriuskop

Numbi Gate is in the south-western section of Kruger National Park. It’s a good gate to enter the park by if you’re heading towards Skukuza Rest Camp (which a lot of people are, as it’s the biggest camp in the park!).

ZebraThe nearest accommodation to the gate however, is Pretoriuskop Rest Camp. This camp is only a distance of 9km (6 miles) away. If you’re going to be arriving late at the park, just before gate closing time, it’s an ideal place to stay the night.

The gate is 391km (243 miles) from Johannesburg and it takes, at best, 4.5 hours to drive that far. When you get to the gate, you’ll need to pay the Kruger National Park entrance fee.

At the gate, remember to put everything you want in an accessible place in your car because you won’t be able to get out and dig through the luggage in your boot, unless you’re at a rest camp, picnic spot or specially signed lookout point. Some of the things you might want handy are:

  • Binoculars
  • Camera
  • Drinks
  • Map
  • Mosquito repellent
  • Snacks
  • Sunscreen

If you’re looking for accommodation near the gate, but outside the game reserve, the towns of White River and Hazyview are in the district and have a good selection.

If you’re passing through these towns on the way to Kruger National Park, you could buy some groceries from one of their supermarkets. You’ll have a better selection and better prices there than in the Kruger Park general stores.

If you are staying outside the park and want to book onto a safari run by Kruger National Park, try one of the morning or afternoon Park and Ride game drives. They last for about 4 hours and leave from the gate. Otherwise, ask the reception of your accommodation about what safari tours they offer.
