Crocodile Bridge Rest Camp is on the doorstep of the Kruger National Park entrance gate of the same name.
The rest camp is named after the bridge over the meandering Crocodile River. This river forms the southern boundary of Kruger Park.
If you’re coming to the game reserve by road from Mozambique, the rest camp is the closest one as it’s in the south-east corner of the park. The camp’s also only a short distance of 11km (7 miles) from the South African town of Komatipoort.
If you’re going through Komatipoort on your way to Kruger Park, consider stocking up on some groceries and supplies at a supermarket there. It’ll be cheaper than buying things at rest camp general stores and you’ll have a better selection to choose from.
There’s a picnic spot at the camp if you’re just passing through and want to stop for something to eat before continuing your safari or saying goodbye to the game reserve.
There are a number of activities on offer at the rest camp. If you’re in to four wheel driving, there’s a 4×4 route called the Lebombo Eco-Trail which leaves from the rest camp. It’s quite an undertaking to go on, as it’s five days long and will take you to Pafuri Picnic Site at the top end of Kruger National Park.
Other much shorter activities which run from the rest camp are bush braais (BBQs) and sunset game drives. These activities last for about 3-4 hours.
If you’re planning to stay at the rest camp, there are three types of accommodation to choose from:
- Camp sites
- Safari tents
- Bungalows
Because this rest camp is on the boundary of Kruger National Park, you may be able to see farmland just across Crocodile River.
Some people prefer not to have these scenes when they’re on safari. If this is you, be wary of this when booking in at the camp. You may like a rest camp further into the game reserve. The closest is Biyamiti, 22km (14 miles) away.
