Berg-En-Dal Rest Camp – Rhino Spotting Territory

Berg-En-Dal Rest Camp is in the south-western corner of Kruger National Park in hilly terrain. If you’re thinking of staying there, there’s a good selection of accommodation on offer:

  • Caravan / camp sites
  • Bungalows
  • Cottages
  • Guest houses

The nearest entrance gate to the rest camp is Malelane Gate, 13km (8 miles) away. This gate is also the closest entry point to Kruger National Park from Johannesburg, so if you’re going to be arriving late, the rest camp is a good choice to book into.

When you’re in the area, make sure you keep an eye out for rhinos. They’re often found there!

The rest camp is a main camp, so it’s got the full suite of services available, including:

  • Cafe
  • Conference centre
  • Day visitor picnic site
  • General store
  • Petrol station
  • Restaurant
  • Swimming pool (for residents only)

Berg-En-Dal Rest Camp gateThere are also some guided activities to consider. On each of them, you’ll be taken out by a Kruger National Park ranger. They’ll explain everything you see and hear on the mini-safari. They’re very informative people and could lead you on a:

  • Morning game walk
  • Morning game drive
  • Sunset game drive

The morning activities are actually very early morning activities. They leave before dawn and return in good time for breakfast!

For a little extra activity in a spare moment when you’re looking for something relaxing to do, try the Rhino Perimeter Trail walk that goes around the rest camp. You’ll see the dam that the camp overlooks. Or, you could watch one of the evening wildlife films on display every day, except Saturdays.

If you’re after something a lot more adventurous, two of the four-day wilderness trails begin at the rest camp; Bushman’s Trail and Wolhuter Trail. On these trails, you have to carry all your own clothing and any extra snacks you might like. Meals and accommodation are included in the trail price.
