General Package Information

There are all kinds of tours available which last for varying lengths of time.

Some tours and game packages are aimed at taking you to one of the many luxury lodges around Greater Kruger National Park. The Greater Kruger area is made up of several private game reserves that target exclusive safari holidays.

Meanwhile there are other tours that will take you into Kruger National Park itself, either staying overnight there or in other accommodation just outside the park.

Packages from Airports

If you’re a tourist to South Africa, planning to go to Kruger National Park and need transport from the airport, there is a type of Kruger Park vacation package available which will arrange to pick you up and take you on tour from O.R. Tambo Airport in Johannesburg or from a regional airport close to Kruger National Park.

Some of these packages may just be shuttle services to the game reserve, while others will be fully catered tours which provide you with accommodation and meals.

Tours from the Kruger Region

If you’re staying near Kruger National Park, your accommodation is bound to offer independent day or half-day safari tours into Kruger National Park or one of the adjoining private reserves in Greater Kruger Park.

These tours may or may not include a meal and/or snacks in their package price. If food isn’t included, you may have to take your own or you’ll stop at one of the picnic spots or rest camp restaurants to eat.

Ask your accommodation’s reception about the types of these tours they may offer.

Self-Drive Tours

Self-drive safaris give you the most flexibility in terms of how much time you want to spend along the road animal watching, your general pace, which rest camp you want to spend the night at, as well as who you’ll share your vehicle with!

Kruger self-drive tours also give you choice of when exactly you want to start and end your safari, down to the very day and hour!

If you need a car you can hire one from any airport or at the Avis rental car office at Skukuza Rest Camp. If you do hire a car from Skukuza, the chances are you’ll have used a shuttle service to get you there in the first place as there is no public transport to take you there otherwise.

If any of these tour types have inspired you, be sure to check out the possibilities with your travel agent or online tour operator.
